Why are they called Bluetooth speakers?
Bluetooth was named after a tenth-century king, Harald Bluetooth, King of Denmark and Norway.
He united dissonant Danish tribes into a single kingdom. The implication is that Bluetooth unites
communication protocols. Bluetooth speakers get their name because they play music
transmitted from a Bluetooth enabled device.

Bluetooth is a wireless transmission technology that's used for device-to-device connections,
for example, between your phone, tablet or laptop and Bluetooth equipped speakers or
headphones. Bluetooth can also be used to transmit data between two devices.
Bluetooth doesn't transmit well through walls or around corners.
Why did he invent them?
Bluetooth was developed by a consortium of companies to create a short-range wireless
standard. The goal was to offer security, low power consumption, high speed
(relatively speaking), and compatibility between any Bluetooth enabled device.
In addition, Bluetooth can pull some serious ad-hoc networking stunts.
